Panleukopaenia: A viral infection that attacks the bones and intestinal walls. Also known as feline infectious enteritis.

pheromones: Biochemicals secreted by animals that communicate information to other animals and that may serve as sexual attractants.

piebald: A bi-color spotted coat pattern.

pinna: The external portion of the ear.

pointed: A coat pattern featuring a light-colored torso marked with darker shades at the body's extremities.

prepotent: A cat that has such a strong genetic influence on its offspring that the offspring consistently resemble it.

purebred: An animal with pure pedigree blood.

pyometra: An infection of the uterus.

queen: A female cat used for breeding.

quick: The sensitive area within a cat's claw.

renal: Relating to the kidneys.

Rhinotracheitis: A respiratory infection of the nose and throat.

roundworm: The most common intestinal parasite in cats.

sire: The male cat responsible for the production of a litter.

spay: The surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus of a female animal.

spray: To mark a surface with urine.

steatitis: An inflammation of fatty tissue.

stifle: The joint between the femur and tibia in a quadruped. Corresponds to the human knee.
